The inception of the first Side Projects Music Awards (SPMA) was held in May 2016. It is an independent body for music-making Filipino bands/musicians in the United Kingdom that reflects the principles of excellence, creativity and camaraderie which are instrumental to our community. It celebrates and give recognition to the local and unsigned Filipino talents throughout the UK, who carries the tradition of our music ingenuity that has become the basis of our personal and social stimulus, along with supporting and nurturing the music community.

Side Projects Productions is responsible for the entire nomination process based on how good their music is and how much talent and hustle they have. Winners will be determined via online votes by their fans and fellow musicians. General criteria considered for each awards are for the individual and collective contributions to the Fil-com events and spreading to a wider audience during the period of May 2016 to May 2017. There will be no less than 14 awards to be given on the evening including Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist and Best Live Band. The OPM and Manila Sound legendary group Boyfriends, who brought you the smash hits “Dahil Mahal Kita”, “Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal”, “Sumayaw Sumunod”, “Nais Kong Malaman Mo”, will receive the Hall of Fame trophy for their lifetime achievement in the music industry for the last four decades. Boyfriends will also perform a special live set on the night. Local acts will be featured during the ceremonies.
